GSCOP under Defra makes sense – we need more intervention, and those against the Defra change seem to fear that, says David Sables, CEO of Sentinel Management Consultants.
“I’m a big believer in GSCOP. Over 14 years of measurement you can’t argue with the progress it has made to fair play in the retailer-supplier interface. That doesn’t mean it can’t improve though. It’s progress has stalled in the past four years. Newly introduced codes like Canada have improved clauses and established ones like Australia have made updates to stay fit for purpose. The GCA should use the move to DEFRA to revamp the code and boost the progress on compliance back into growth.”
