Collaborative forecasting is a myth.

Collaboration in forecasting sounds appealing but it’s just a gentle name for trying to get the retailer to do their job properly, says David Sables, CEO of Sentinel Management Consultants.

In today’s world there are fewer excuses for inaccurate forecasting and no excuses for retailer’s lack of accountability on forecasting. Suppliers trying desperately to get a handle on what retailers will order and sell, are attempting to engage them in some form of collaborative forecasting methodology. Actually, backed by GSCOP, suppliers need to push the responsibility and accountability firmly where it belongs, with the supermarkets. Retailers need to step up, they have the data but wont take the initiative that manufacturers need for efficient food supply and environmental wins.” – David Sables
